Durk: Nashville, Tennessee; I enjoy painting musical figures. My influences come from the expressionist and post-modern movements. I like the works of Karel Appel, William H. Johnson, Jean Michel Basquiat, William Edmundson, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Egon Schiele, Jean Dubuffet as well as the looking at the commentary of kitschy pop culture through art. I don't tend to use brushes anymore. I just smear paint with my hands and use oil paint sticks as well. It makes me feel like a messy kid again.
